US6269650B1 - Air Conditioning Control System for Variable Evaporator Temperature - Google Patents

According to this invention there can now be provided a system of capacity control of refrigerant air conditioning which will control whether a volume flow rate of the refrigerant rses or falls on a change in climatic and internal heat and moisture conditions. Should it fall, input energy is reduced and treated space humidity or coolant velocity is increased. According to this invention there is established a lowest volume flow rate to maintain required preselected conditioned air characteristics.

Wiped film evaporators: Segmental assessment of wetting behavior and heat transfer performance

An analysis of different operating points during the evaporation of a subcooled feed in a wiped film evaporator (WFE) allows a conceptual segmental assessment, distinction and quantification of various wetting behaviors and heat transfer situations during the liquid film flow. In detail, single-phase heating, evaporation from a fully covered surface and evaporation from a partly covered surface may be distinguished. For each section the wetting situation is extracted. This knowledge is essential for operating wiped film evaporators within a suitable and appropriate range to prevent e.g. product damage. The experiments were conducted at a stainless steel and steam-heated wiped film evaporator with a spring-loaded, inclined comb wiper system and monoethylene glycole as evaporation fluid. Process pressure, wiper type and rotational velocity were kept constant. Variations of feed rate and driving temperature difference mark out the characteristic operating points. In case of sufficient wetting of the evaporation surface, overall heat transfer coefficients of 1800 W/(m²·K) are reached. By decreasing feed rate and assessing the achieved distillate rate minimum sump loads can be derived for a given driving temperature difference. This quantifies the position of film break-up leading to a partly covered heat transfer surface. Active heat transfer areas are extracted from the experimental data and quantified to get a more precise view on suitable process conditions of WFE and its principal operation.

What is an evaporator temperature sensor, how does it work, wheres it located and what does it do?

oh oh..i know i know an evaporator temp sensor is located on the evaporator housing, in the a/c system, and monitors the temp to prevent the evaporator from freezing up. if the hvac control module sees the temp going too low, it will send a communication message to the pcm to turn off the a/c compressor until the evap temp returns to an acceptable range. locations vary model to model. look for it under the hood, where the big and little silver aluminum pipes go into the firewall that box might house it, probably just a 3 wire sensor. or maybe it's a little harder to get to, under the cowl of the vehicle, (under the wiper blades) or even harder to get to would be under the dash on the top of the hvac module assembly.

evaporator is freezing up on 04 dodge ram cummins?

Most of the time evaporator freeze-over is caused by too much moisture buildup in the casing. Removing the moisture will keep the evaporator functioning properly. Either drill a larger drain hole, another hole or make sure that path the tube takes does not include obstructions. You might be surprised how those things get kinked. Also, try not to run in recirc mode during humid weather, it cycles the compressor constantly and supercools the evaporator. Good Luck

How to change evaporator in 2003 eclipse?

I have to ask how you think your evaporator is leaking? Has your AC stopped working? I ask because changing an evaporator is not an easy job. And also, the evaporator in the AC system hardly ever has a problem. But yes you will have to probably take the complete dash off.

What causes an evaporator coil to go bad?

Dust on the evaporator coil, debris on the outdoor condenser unit, a dirty air filter, and a refrigerant leak can all cause the evaporator to freeze. Evaporator coils can also develop tiny pinhole leaks due to corrosion caused by the mixing of moisture from condensation with chemicals commonly found in household air. Correspondingly, how long should an evaporator coil last? They should last for the life of the A/C system, which is generally 15-20 years for a high quality system. (Many people end up replacing their systems between 12 and 15 years due to efficiency issues or deferred maintenance causing damage to more easily damaged components, such as the compressor.) Subsequently, question is, how much should it cost to replace evaporator coil? The average cost to replace a Central AC evaporator coil is around $710, when the parts are under manufacturer warranty and you only pay the labor cost. Out of warranty coil repair cost is approximately $1,460 for parts and installation. Similarly, it is asked, how does an evaporator coil go bad? The main reason that an evaporator coil would fail and need to be replaced is due to erosion. Over time, the refrigerant flowing through the evaporator's coils wears down the inner lining, making the coils weaker. Certain evaporator coil cleaners can also corrode and weaken the outer lining of the coils. How often do AC coils need to be replaced? It's part of standard AC maintenance. The compressors need to be serviced about every two years. The coils should need to be replaced infrequently. When they do need to be replaced, the owner may need to decide whether it is more worthwhile to repair the air conditioner or replace the unit.

What is the difference between an evaporator and an air conditioner?

Evaporator is a component of an air conditioner. In a chiller system, it is called an evaporator. In residential split system it is called the indoor unit. In commercial DX system it is called the fan coil unit. In any form, it is basically a heat exchanger where refrigerant evaporates on one side (that's why the name evaporator), the effect of evaporation is taking heat away from the medium on the other side (air in DX or water in chiller). The medium is circulated by a fan in the case of air, or by a pump in the case of water. An air conditioner consists of many other components, like the compressor, condenser, expansion valves, fans, thermostat and controller etc. What is the difference between an evaporator and an air conditioner?

In books, a Navy ship's evaporators never produce enough fresh water. Is this realistic?

On my submarine we had an 8000 gallon per day evaporator and a 1600 gpd distillation unit. The '8k' did a great job in keeping the boat in fresh water for propulsion use and potable water but on occasion it would have a problem. Sometimes there was other reasons not to run the evaporator like operating in dirty water locations, while in an ultra-quiet condition, or the need for the steam used for the evaporator for propulsion instead. During those times showers were secured except for cooks and cranks. Most of us would take bird baths from other fresh water sources like the condensate system. Some people would take salt water showers when we were deep and salinity was lower.

The 1600 gpd still was another issue. Whenever the 8k would stop working for whatever reason we would try to start the still. Inevitably it wouldn't work because the electric heating element would be grounded due to the residue left over from the last time it was used. By the time the still was flushed enough to be able to pull and replace the electric heating elements (immersion heaters) and tested the 8k would be ready for operation. The still would be forgotten until the next time.... lather, rinse, repeat.

does the evaporator has to be changed for the a/c to work all other parts checked ok?

If it's not leaking, there's virually no reason to change the evaporator. If your mechanic is suggesting a new evaporator on a non-leaking system, I would suggest you get a new mechanic. There is one possible exception. From 1988-1990 Ford used the "FX15 compressor" on many large sedans and light trucks. These were the cause of the notorious "Black Death", a sticky sludge formed by ground up Teflon seals in the poorly designed compressor mixing with moisture and R12. This ooze would get deposited throughout the system, but the process of evaporation caused it to bond most effectively inside the evaporator where it impeded heat transfer and was impossible to flush out. So if you have a Ranger, Crown Vic or similar vehicle from those years, you just might need to swap out your non-leaking evaporator core.

AC evaporator coil replacement.?

Many newer and higher efficiency evaporator coils are both R-22 and R-410A compatible. Puron is a brand name Carrier uses for R-410A, by the way. Does that mean you can just replace the coil now, continue to use your older R-22 condensing unit and then, when the time comes, convert to R-410A? The answer is no. That's because oil used in an R-22 compressor and oil used in an R-410A compressor are incompatible with each other. When the system is running, oil in the compressor migrates with the refrigerant, leaving some oil trapped in the evaporator coil. Though the refrigerant line set can be flushed and evacuated of most all the oil, the oil that is in the evaporator coil is harder, if not impossible, to remove. As to your question, that's a call only you can make. Sure, it's easy to say just go ahead and replace everything, but we do not know your financial situation. How can I tell you to spend $6,000? Logic tells me you should go ahead and convert, but the reality is $6,000 is a lot of money. R-22 is not going away tomorrow or even next year, for that matter. R-22 will continue to be produced until 2010 for new equipment. After that, R-22 will still be produced for servicing existing R-22 equipment. So, the refrigerant will still be available. The question is how much will costs continue to rise as they have been doing for the last few years. DuPont has ozone friendly R-22 replacement refrigerants on the market now, R-417A being one, but I have not had any experience with them.

how do you install 1999 saab 93 a/c evaporator?

STEP 1 Drain the AC system & evacuate the AC refrigerant STEP 2 Remove the glove box & remove the wiring harness tie wrap at the evaporator housing STEP 3 Remove evaporator housing cover & air filter element STEP 4 Remove the cabin fan assembly STEP 5 Remove the expansion valve STEP 6 Remove the AC line block (5.9 ft lb torque) from the evaporator (may require cutting) STEP 7 Remove the evaporator (on some cars you may have to remove the temperature sensor) STEP 8 Refit in reverse I am guessing the evaporator is not leaking but one of the seals has gone bad. The problem is finding these leaks when you can not see all of the connection points! You may get lucky when you start dis-assembly and see the dye marking on one of the joints.

Reviewing Different Parts and Components of Vehicle Air Conditioning
No one hates or dislikes the pleasant air of the car's air conditioner in warm summer days because it can allow you to travel to different places with comfort. The same vehicle allows you to stay cool on a long drive. But these things are only possible when you take proper care of the entire car and especially the AC mechanism. In this post, we look at different parts of vehicle air conditioning system and the care they needThese parts are -Compressor· Just like we humans have a heart, the AC system has a compressor as its heart.· This component is a pump connected to the engine whose main function is to compress the refrigerant from the evaporator coils.· The compressor that acts as a pump is attached to the engine with for compressing the refrigerant gas and circulating it in the entire coil system. NOTE — This part has both intake and discharge sides.Condenser -· The experts of vehicle air conditioning say that this component works almost like a radiator and is very small in size and appearance.· It is installed inside the mechanism to give away the heat and according to the experts, whenever the system is turned "on", it should receive a good supply of air for cooling purposes. Evaporator· The next very important component in the AC mechanism of any vehicle is the evaporator.· Its main is to absorb heat and other than absorbing the heat from inside the vehicle, it is responsible for dehumidifying the vehicle.· The experts of wiring repair Parramatta say that to make sure that this component works fine, it is important that devices like orifice tube are installed. · This device is also very necessary to regulate the temperature of the evaporator, as it is a pressure introducing as well as a pressure regulating device.Receiver· The experts of vehicle air conditioning say that one more very important part of this mechanism is the receiver.· This system employs thermal expansion valves that are actually pressure regulating devices. · The pressure regulating device receives the liquid refrigerant that it needs for functioning.· In order to do so, it must separate liquid and gas that is done by this component. The accumulator· According to the experts, one more very important component of the entire mechanism is called an accumulator. · This component is found using only in automotive air conditioning systems that have an orifice tube as a pressure regulating agent.· The main function of the component is to store surplus liquid refrigerant and it works by restricting the refrigerant from entering the compressor.· The reason why it does so is that too much of refrigerant entering inside the compressor could be detrimental for its overall health. All these and several other parts, in fact the entire vehicle air conditioning system requires proper maintenance on a regular basis to make sure that it continues to work efficiently throughout the summer season. Doing this would also ensure that you will not have to invest a major amount every year in its servicing or repair, etc.Author Bio:Paul Amelio is associated with Automotive, established in the Parramatta district for over 60 years. The firm provide a complete automotive solution and can take care of ALL your car needs. The services of company also include Vehicle Air Conditioning, Mechanical Repairs Parramatta etcFaint Positives & Evaporation Lines?happend to me and i was just tryna physc myself out. now im 11 weeks pregDoes the water's color affect it evaporation time?If there was a colorant in the water, the water would absorb more heat - especially if there were something like an infrared heat source shining into it. You could set up an infrared spotlight, but also just any bright spotlight that shines into your samples will do the trick: the darker the color, the greater the absorption. If the water absorbs more energy, then it will evaporate faster. the extra energy will allow more molecules to get the energy necessary to change into a gas. So if you have a strong light source - infrared would be better, but not necessary - and you had several glasses of water, each with a different color, you should have a workable experiment. It is important to have the amount of light hitting each glass fairly equal, otherwise the one with more light will have an "advantage". If you leave the experiment on for at least a few hours, you should easily see the different rates of evaporation by the level of liquid in each glass. You could also place a card behind each glass, with calibration lines, to make it easier for people to gauge how much water is in each glass.
What Is the Proper Way to Clean a Evaporator Coil?
If you are cleaning the outside of the coil, the condensate pan, etc., I would use degreaser and water. Cleaning the inside of the coil should be left to a pro.1. 98 Buick Lesabre evaporator coil?Unless you are taking it out and replacing it, there is no reason to access it. There is nothing serviceable. But anyways, it under your dashboard, in the same ductwork as your heater core. Get to it through the glove box, or underneath, taking off the lower ductwork.2. Help with central AC and copper tubing from evaporator coils?Regarding your condensate drain tube - is your home on a slab or pier and beam ? If you are on a slab you should be able to walk around and look until you see a stream of water exiting the house. If you are on pier and beam you would have water pooling under the house, and that might be a very bad thing, so you want to get under the house and look for the tube. Some people have the water drain into their sewer system, which can be done with a floor drain or into the water drain pipe for the washing machine. As for the people who service the AC unit, I suggest you take several photographs of your problems and then personally visit a business that services AC units and discuss with a manager your frequent problems, then visit another service business with that information and see what they tell you. Once you decide on a service company it helps them to have everything known, on a checklist, before the service tech arrives on the premises; the checklist is to ensure all of your questions are answered.3. What's the Difference Between the Condenser and Evaporator Coils? The evaporator and condenser coils in an air conditioner are heat movers. One extracts heat from inside your house and the other dumps that heat outdoors. The end result of this process is a cooler, more comfortable indoor environment. In addition to getting the heat out of the house, the evaporator coil performs the function of reducing humidity. Because moist air holds heat energy, lowering the humidity promotes more effective cooling. Central air conditioning is a closed-loop system. What flows through that loop is refrigerant - a substance that readily absorbs heat energy, shifting from a vapor to liquid state and back again. Through an insulated conduit connecting the coils, refrigerant flows from the indoor evaporator coil through the system compressor to the outdoor condenser coil, then loops back to the evaporator. Here's how the evaporator and condenser coils perform the heavy lifting of keeping your house comfortable: Cold refrigerant vapor passes through the evaporator coil tubing as warm indoor air is drawn through coil air passages by the air handler blower. Heat energy in the air conducts through the copper surfaces of the coil and is absorbed by the frigid refrigerant. The refrigerant flows through the conduit to the A/C outdoor component. A compressor pressurizes the refrigerant, concentrating heat energy and converting it to a hot liquid as it enters the condenser coil. Rapid condensation inside the condenser coil tubing causes the hot refrigerant to convert to a liquid state and rapidly release the stored heat energy. As the condenser fan pulls air through the coil passageways, this heat is dispersed by aluminum coil fins into outside air. Liquid refrigerant now completes the return trip to the evaporator and the process repeats. We are your source for residential and commercial services in the Norfolk County area.4. why does an ac unit being low on refrigerant cause the evaporator to freeze up?The freon enters the evaporator through a thermal control valve. The pressure drop causes the freon to change from a liquid to a gas and in doing so cools the evaporator. If the freon is low the pressure at the output of the evaporator falls below its normal level and with freon, pressure is equivalent to its temperature. Normal output pressure for R-134a should be above 30 psig ( 34.5 degrees F), if it drops below 28 psig (32.2 degree F) there is a chance the evaporator can freeze.5. What kind/size of Evaporator Coil do I need for a 2.5 Ton Trane A/C Condensor (XB12)?You sure thats not a HEAT PUMP? XB12's were heat pumps. If memory serves me that was on a 12 seer rated. So in this case you going to want to get a R410A 13 Seer 2.5 Ton cased coil. It will match the system as closely as it was originally designed. The system is R22. You will not find the proper matched "12 seer coil" A R410A Evaporator Cased coil will work fine. Which will be rated for R410A / R22. You also going to need a Bi-flow liquid line drier. You going to need to consult with an HVAC company to complete this installation as this will be WAY over your head. And if Im correct if this is a heat pump, your going to have to change out the thermostat or you can just wire it up for cooling only if you have a gas furnace.
How to Fix My Home Air Conditioner, It Is Making a Loud Rattling Sound and the Fan Is Extremely Loud
Probably a squirrel cage fan that the shaft has gone bad or bearing has come loose or fan has slipped on shaft either rubbing housing or unbalanced. You will have to get to fan to repair or replace. Immediately if not sooner as you could loose your compressor or evaporator coils or both.1. How do I clean the evaporator on a 1999 Chrysler LHS?You can find several products at the parts store that will do this. One is by BG called frigi fresh. You just spray them through the fresh air vent. They work too3. Smell when hvac sytem turns on and appears to be mold growth ouside inside evaporator coil in attic? This sounds to me like the filter was never changed and the condensate drain was never serviced. the growth in those things can get pretty stinky.... I doubt if the coil needs to be replaced, but it needs to be cleaned & sanitized. What does it all mean? It means you need to be pro-active and a more responsible owner as far as your HVAC system is concerned. Of course you can always just leave it all to us..... keep your check book handy4. 98 Buick Lesabre evaporator coil?Unless you are taking it out and replacing it, there is no reason to access it. There is nothing serviceable. But anyways, it under your dashboard, in the same ductwork as your heater core. MY AC UNIT IS ICING AT THE COMPRESSOR AND SUCTION LINE. HEAD PRESSURE IS 250PSI,SUCTION LINE PRESSURE 45PSI?It sounds like it is overcharged to me but I would need to know the ambient temperature and check and make sure all is okay at the evaporator. But if you are getting liquid clear back to the compressor in the suction line it is overcharged or you are not getting enough heat transfer at the evaporator. You are not trying to run it in the cold with a cold house, are you? Make sure your filters and evaporator are clean, most of the vents open, and the fan running on high. I do not suspect the expansion valve or your high side would not be that high.7. Cleaning Evaporator Coils (air handler)? Before you start using off-label products, give a whirl at some evaporator coil cleaner. I would much rather you spent a long time working at it with a chemical that just barely gets the job done, than switch up to something stronger, harsher, that damages the coil. Yes, you would rather get things done easily but if you ruin your coil, that's going to be a big, painful bill to pay just for trying to save a little time and effort. Evaporator coil cleaner can be found at HVAC supply houses - check your Yellow Pages - and some appliance parts dealers. [edit] I strongly doubt what you are calling "lime scale" is actually scale. The moisture that forms on your evaporator coils is pure water condensed directly out of the air - it does not have any minerals in it. It's the purest water in your house, or at least it is until it gets to the gunk that's growing in your condensate pan.
Do the AC Condenser and Evaporator Coil Need to Be Replaced at the Same Time?
Excellent and correct answer Brian1. Feasibility of replacing cracked AC condenser fan bladesThe condensing coil is the part the fan draws air through. look close if some fins are a little bent that will reduce the efficiency but it will still work with a new fan. Fans are easy a set screw holds the shaft or a hex nut make sure to get the same pitch and diameter they can be turned over to change air flow direction.2. why dose my car keep over heating, i changed the radiator,AC condenser, and thermostat, but still getting hot ?it could have an air bubble in the system, the heater core could be pluged3. Home AC condenser failure?at best the homeowners policy will pay for the scrap metal value,,,if even that. the new ones cost is going to be on you4. What is the 1.5-tonne window AC condenser price of Voltas? You need to check the manufacturer tag for the wattage rating, or if it only shows volts and amperage you can multiply the volts times the amps to get the watt rating. for example 240 volts and 10 amps = 240 X 10 = 2400 watts. When you have the watts per hour. you can then check your power bill to see how much you are charged. for example 0. 11 cents per kilowatt hour. so for every hour that you use 1000 watts you pay 0.11 cents. in our example you would have to divide 2400 watts by 1000 which equals 2.4 kilowatts . Then you multiply 2.4 X 0.11 = 0.264 which rounds to $0.26 cents for every hour that you run this equipment.... Just plug in your actual values to get your answer and multiply by the number of hours that you will run the equipment. What is the 1.5-tonne window AC condenser price of Voltas?5. How do you replace the ac condenser on a 2006 Jeep Wrangler Sport?first you have to have a a/c suction machine to suck out the fluid. if you dont have one then dont attempt. youll screw up your a/c system. take it to your local dealership6. What is an ac condenser and how much does one cost?a/c condenser is located in front of the radiator (and kind of looks like a radiator too). Through the use of cool air flow provided by the engine fan, the condensor cools the hot gas and converts it to How do I keep my new central AC condenser from blowing fuses? It sounds like they have no idea. The wire to the condensing unit is too small. It probably burned off wire connections inside the unit maybe even in the compressor terminal box. Anyone who justs puts 4 lbs of refrigerant in and leaves is a fool. The dealer who installed the system should pay for all repairs to the unit. To check out his work, Click on the installation page and it will give you a guide to quality work.8. what is a good price to get your AC condenser recharged for your car?Our dealership charges about $75, but if you need it recharged you may have a leak somewhere. A common misconception is that the refridgerant gets "used up" when you use your A/C, but it does not it gets recycled. No system is perfect and in all reality you will lose freon at seals and fittings etc. but if you have to get it charged every year for example then you have a problem9. What o-rings are needed for my AC condenser? The o rings are pretty specific and I have seen them available at auto one and other shops of that nature. The ones that I have seen are green in color for what it is worth10. what do you call the metal cover on the wall or ceiling that goes to the AC Condenser? With something that big it is probably a return air grill and the home stores wo not likely have it in that size. Try a plumbing supply house and if they do not carry them, ask where you CAN get them. Any A/C repairman in your area will also know where to get new ones, and another possibility is to have the one you already have sandblasted and re-painted. You might also be able to wire brush it well enough yourself, then use a rusty metal primer and whatever color spray paint suits your fancy. Al
Is It Bad If My Evaporator Coils and Condenser Coils Dont Match? Cool Today
manufacturers purposely design both sets of coils to work in tandem to remove heat and moisture from your home. • your evaporator coils absorb heat from the air inside your home • the heat travels along refrigerant lines until it reaches the condenser coils • the condenser coils dump the heat into the outdoor airWhat are the best type of outdoor plant for the desert? It gave a beautiful finish (brought out all the natural colors), and looked great for the whole summer. But by the next year it needed doing again, which I will be doing soon. It's cheap deck furniture, so I do not mind if it degrades a little while I pretend it does not yet need to be retreated. Personally, I would not do that with window/door trim.IIRC, I mixed it with turpentine, which I believe helps it soak into the wood.Elsewhere on my house I am testing a toner product called Penofin, on some redwood. That's holding up great so far, and I am expecting to only have to re-apply it every few years. (it contains micro metalic elements, which reflect/block some of the harmful UV light) There are plenty of Penofin competitors / alternatives too. Personally, I would use something like that on doors/windows, or paint them. Can I use 300' of extension cords for an outdoor appliance that uses only 15 watts of power but runs 24/7?A 16 gauge extension cord will work fine. 16 Gauge cord with a length of 300 feet will handle up to 1250 wattsHi, we need advice on moving 2 indoor cats to an outdoor enclosure?Seriously???????? Do them a bigger favor and find a cat loving person who will keep them as indoor cats.Anyone know where I can get detailed plans for building an outdoor kid's swing/play set?I had a friend that worked there before and they use to have little parties and everything where each kid would build their own bear in celebration of someones birthday. It's a lot of fun for them and even though it was about 5 years ago I still see at least one person buying it when I go to the mall. Personally I think it's somewhat expensive but it's a lot of fun for the little ones which makes it totally worth it. :).How can I eliminate these outdoor ant colonies?feed them corn meal or stuff black pepper down their nest regularly until they move away somewhere else. corn meal will expand in their stomach after they digest it and they will dieI need an outdoor snake repellent that really works, any ideas out there?Snake DeterrentI am keeping my outdoor pregnant cat inside, but she keeps howling at the door. am i being unhumane? It's called 'tough love'. She needs to be kept indoors, and indoors only until those kittens are born, and she is spayed. She is no different than a human toddler who would like to do things that are not in her best interest. Of course she wants to go out, and she's going to tell you so, but ignore her and keep her in. By letting her out, the kittens are going to be born outside, and at risk for being eaten by predators. If she gets hit by a car while nursing that litter, you will be raising a litter of orphan kittens. The day that her kittens are born, call the vet and make a spay appointment for 8 weeks from that day. Vets get booked solid this time of year, and this way her appointment will be all ready and waiting for her when the kittens are weaned at 8 weeks. Mom will go back into heat and will get pregnant again even while nursing her litter, and back to back litters like that are not healthy for mom nor her kittens, not to mention that there are over 4 Million cats and kittens put to death each year in the US as there are way more cats and kittens than there are homes for them - do not contribute to that. The right and humane thing to do is to keep her indoors, and then get her spayed.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Auto Evaporator Repair
Home Mortgage w/ Very Low Interest Rates: More or Less Down?At a minimum, I'd like to maintain a 12 month emergency fund, plus 5% for unexpected home repairs. I'm also leaning towards maintaining some liquidity for other potential investments (maybe a rental property, maybe continue to invest in index funds). In the worst case scenario, that liquidity can be used for living expenses if we're in a very prolonged downturn. That would have been the first question: Will you still have enough money for an emergency fund and whatever else you need? I am assuming that all the student loans, auto loans and credit cards have paid off. You mention that you will still fund your retirement accounts, which is great. You then have to decide if you want all/most of your net worth wrapped up in your house. If the market changes and you can't sell when you want, you might have a problem affording the next place. Note that being difficult to sell is different than selling at a loss. I had a place that when the number of potential buyers shrank, it was hard to even get somebody to look at your place because there were a lot for sale. But if you drop the price then they think it has problems so they never even visit the property.Even with the house 100% paid for you still have housing costs. Insurance is required if you have mortgage. But you should still insure the property, because if it burns down that is your pile of cash burning. Don't forget property taxes, and maybe even a Home Owners Association fee.Taxes can be complex. In some jurisdictions property taxes and interest is deductible. But depending on your exact situation, you might get zero benefit from those deductions. Some people push a mortgage just to get the interest deduction. That was always a complex analysis, but if you can't deduct those expenses from your taxes then that reason for a mortgage evaporates.Remember there is no guarantee that the value of the house will increase or even stay level. I have neighbors who have waited 10 years to recover the value of their property because they bought just before the market cratered in the mid 2000's, they now wonder what will happen to their house value after COVID-19.------my car AC is cool but not ice cold why ? that.s makes me crazy it is 104 f (40 C ) HERE?You may be low in freon. Not enough for the compressor to opoerate the AC system effectively. Also check your belts deflection if you have only driven AC to Crank pulley drives------Central air doesn't blow sometimes? The unit running outside is only moving air through the condenser coils and has nothing to with moving air in the house. Since the problem is interment, it sounds like the fan motor has a loose power connection------Why is there no explosion risk while there is a gasoil pre-pump immersed in the fuel tank?To add a little bit to Paulster2's answer the upper and lower Explosive Limits of Gasoline is 7.6% and 1.4% respectively. This means that a concentration outside of those limits will either be to rich or lean to burn. And since Gasoline's Flash point is -45 F (-43 C) it's pretty much always putting off vapors, which would push any air out of the tank. It's next too if not impossible to get a high enough concentration of air in the tank to make the the tank explode under normal conditions. As for the phone comment, outside the tank it only takes a concentration of 1.4% (not much) to catch fire------Home Air Conditioner Problem? So your unit is electronic control which were complicated and unpredictable unlike the manually controlled. If sometimes it works fine that means there's something wrong with the circuit board (like a motherboard) and not with the refrigerant------Is it normal for Thermostat to be over set temperature? The last answer is pretty complete. I would add make sure your filters are clean. You may want to place another stand alone thermometer by your thermostat to insure that it is functioning correctly, kinda like a second opinion
I Have a 14 Year Old Ac Has a Leak in the Evaporator Coil and Needs a New Drain Pan..?
That is a tough call, always. It is much cheaper to replace the A coil and pan. They usually would want to sell you a complete system including air handler, depending on what you have, and that can be pricey. One consideration is that evap coil may have pitted out from the inside due to the oil that travels through the system having become caustic. That would mean the outside coil is in similar condition and does not have long to last. For me it would depend on how low they are willing to charge for just the evaporator and pan. If under $1000 I would go for it to get more years out of the rest. If looking at $2k or more I would tilt towards replacing. But prices can vary a lot state to state. Good Luck1. How do I clean the evaporator tray under a Fridgedaire refrigerator when it is bolted in place? There really is not way to clean it. Try and vacuum it, or maybe a wand type brush. Also, the proper name is condenser under the frig and evaporator is in the freezer. Be careful of the tubing. Good luck2. How much should it cost to replace a home A/C evaporator coil?Depends on the area of the U.S. you live in. I know in FL that sounds like replacing the whole system not just the coil. cleaning is easy to do with out the door. I say call around get a 2nd opinion. I know some that can change the coil for a lot less. Also make sure if the unit is an R22 they replace it with a r22 coil if not then he has to change a lot things. to make it fit ask the tech 2 questions 1)is this the price for the whole change to 410a or still 22? 2)the coil you are replacing is it 22 or 410a?3. 1994 Chevy 1500 C/K Pickup A/C Evaporator Core?heater core is relativity easy, Evaporator core requires taking out the dash... BIG JOB... have fun... As for the manual go to your local auto parts and you can buy a book for about 15 bucks.4. Who is the manufacturer of the Nissan Altima's AC Evaporator?usually "calsonic" they have been building them for years5. How can I clean my (inaccessible) evaporator coil on my HVAC?Sure but that wont clean much. All evaporators should have access by removing panels or if it's installed in the plenum there should have been sheet metal that can be removed. I have seen a lot of them installed with no access and have had to cut sheet metal and add removable covers. They usually need to be accessed from the front where the refrigerant lines connect. if the coil sits on top of a furnace (up-flow) The triangular piece of metal covering the center has to be removed to see the side were dirt would collect. Cleaning is done using a coil cleaner that breaks down the dirt and is flushed out. Using a light and mirror will help ensure the coil is clean. Coils can be damaged easily so care must be taken not to damage the fins. This is best left up to a A/C technician.6. What could be causing this leaky evaporator problem? My office is below one of these units mounted in downflow configuration. The first seam in the ducting is just over the desk extension about 4 inches from the wall. For a long while, we had a permanent waste basket installation to catch water. The shuttle valve failed twice locking the system into AC mode during winter which freezes a big block of ice causing major flooding. When that happens, you have a couple gallons of water you will get out of the system as the ice block melts off the evaporator coils. It can not run along the fins to the condensation drain. In between these two instances, we had the condensate drain block from some sort of construction debris that had gotten into the system. Not so much water but quite a bit.The system always had a tendency to leak water during the extremely humid days of summer. You can always tell when this happens as the water flow is much less, probably more like what is being described. It started about 3-4 years after we had the unit installed. Finally I got to talking to our HVAC tech with the new company we hired and asked him about the situation. He explained that the unit is a flooded evaporator system and if you are low on freon, the evaporator coils start running at too low a temperature and you get a minor icing problem that messes up the water flow on the fins. Basically, we have them do a service call before summer hits to do maintenance, check freon levels and the problem went away. No more waste basket sitting on my desk.Do not know if this applies to your system, but maybe it will be applicable for others
Evaporator Coils & Condenser Coils | What Are They & How Do They Help Cool Your Home?
The airborne chemicals that encourage these leaks are known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and come from new carpeting, upholstery, pressed wood furniture, air fresheners, cleaning chemicals and many other sources. Ensuring good home ventilation reduces the VOCs in your indoor air, protecting both the evaporator coil and your health. How to Care For Teak Patio FurnitureTeak patio furniture is the highest quality outdoor furniture you can find. Teak is also very easy to clean and care for. Teak wood has special qualities that make it ideal for outdoor use. It requires very little care or maintenance to last decades. There are some recommended products that you can use to treat the wood in order for it to keep a beautiful color long after you buy it. But if you apply the wrong type of product, it can actually be harmful to teak wood in the long run. So let's look at how you should clean and care for your teak outdoor furniture, so that you do it right. Why is Teak Wood Good For Patio Furniture? Teak is a very dense and oily wood. The natural oil present within teak wood offers it protection from pests such as termites. The oil also keeps water from seeping into the wood. This means teak furniture can be left outside and endure years of rain, wind, heat, and cold. If the furniture was skillfully crafted it will last for generations. Teak wood has a golden honey color when new, but after time it naturally fades into a light gray patina. This color change is only cosmetic and does not affect the strength of the wood. But if you prefer the golden color there are a couple things you can do to slow down the aging process. Some regular cleaning is also necessary to keep the wood looking beautiful. Does Teak Furniture Need To Be Treated With Teak Oil? Most teak furniture manufacturers recommend not using teak oil. The wood's natural oil is sufficient to protect it from damage. Teak oil is not actually the same as the natural oil found in the teak tree. It is just called "teak oil" for marketing purposes, when really it is mostly composed of linseed oil and solvents. When freshly applied, teak oil will give the wood a nice attractive glow, but this will be short-lived. Before long, the teak oil on the surface will dry out and your furniture will quickly fade in color again. You will have to keep reapplying oil every few months to keep ahead of the graying process. If you are unlucky, the teak oil stuck to the surface will encourage fungus growth and leave tiny black spots on the wood. This is exactly what you do not want to happen. Treating teak with oil depletes the wood's natural oils, and the wood becomes dependent on a periodic external oil treatment. However the extra moisture of the oil also creates the ideal environment for mildew to flourish. Therefore, this method is not recommended. Is Teak Sealer Better Than Teak Oil? The second method of treating teak wood is by applying teak sealer. Unlike oil, sealer will not damage the natural oil of the wood. It is a water-based product that creates a barrier to prevent the natural oil from evaporating and oxidizing on the surface. Treatment with teak sealer is only needed once a year in order to effectively protect teak wood from color fade. And if later you decide to let the furniture fade naturally, teak sealer treatments can simply be discontinued. After not applying sealer for a while, the wood will simply begin to age as before. Since teak sealer is more effective at preserving the color of teak wood, and it only requires a few hours of your time each year to apply, it is recommended over teak oil. Whenever you apply any oil or varnish to wood furniture, be sure to dispose of any oil-soaked rags properly. Improperly disposed rags saturated with linseed oil (the main component in "teak oil") have been known to spontaneously combust and start fires. Oily rags should be soaked in water, laid out flat to dry, and then properly disposed. Teak is very durable and will last for generations. It only needs some basic cleaning to remove dirt and to prevent external mold growth. You should choose a sunny day to clean your teak furniture so that it will dry faster. It is recommended to use a specially formulated teak cleaner such as Golden Care Teak Cleaner, which will clean and brighten the wood at the same time. Soapy water will also suffice for basic cleaning. Use a non-metallic brush to gently scrub the surface of the wood. Scrub in the same direction as the grain. You should not use much force. Afterwards, use a garden hose to rinse off the teak furniture with water. Do not use a pressure cleaner as that can damage the wood. After cleaning, pat the wood dry with a towel and let the sun dry up any remaining moisture. If you intend to follow cleaning with the application of teak sealer, make sure that you've given the wood ample time to completely dry beforehand. How to Remove Stains From Teak Outdoor Furniture Most stains will not be a problem if you clean up spills quickly and wash your teak furniture with soapy water using a soft-bristled scrub brush. However, some stains such as coffee and red wine might get into the wood. For these stains you can rely on a commercial teak cleaning product such as Golden Care. If the stain is really set in pretty well, then another method to remove it is to sand the surface of the wood. Light stains will only need a light sanding, while deeper stains might require you to start with a coarser sandpaper followed by a finer grain sandpaper to leave a smooth finish. Teak furniture can be left outdoors all year round, even in extreme weather. However, if you live in an area with a seasonal climate you may wish to bring your teak patio furniture indoors or cover it over the winter to prevent it from getting dirty. Be sure to use a cover that does not trap moisture, because you do not want to encourage mold growing on the wood's exterior. The best outdoor furniture covers are made from tyvek. If you leave your teak furniture outside over the winter, be sure to give it a good cleaning in the spring before using it for the first time. As you can see, your teak patio furniture can last a lifetime with very little care on your part. Since it lasts such a long time, teak is preferred to other types of wood. You can enjoy knowing that the teak dining set you buy today will be enjoyed by your children and grandchildren in the future.
Ac Evaporator Freezing Up?
It could be the restrictor in the freon line is stopped up. if this happens, the freon cannot flow properly thru the system and it will cause the lines to ice up. this would be a job for a heat and air firm to check out.1. What is the labor cost to replace an A/C evaporator coil? This Site Might Help You. RE: What is the labor cost to replace an A/C evaporator coil? My Carrier Puron system is only 5 years old, but appears to have sprung a leak in the evaporator coil (at least that's what the tech is telling me). Even though it's 3 weeks past the warranty, I got Carrier to give me a new coil. However, the HVAC company said it would cost about $850 in...2. If the expansion valve on the evaporator is clogged would it cause the car not to cool?Absolutely - and it would be evident by the ice berg that forms around the valve3. Does my a/c evaporator press (coils) need to be cleaned? In order to remove the coiils and clean them, a licensed service person has to reclaim all of the refrigeration from the system (which can take up to two hours), take the unit apart, clean the coil, install the coil (which is welding), and put the refrigerant back into the unit. This can probaby take up to 4 hours to do. Sounds to me like he's going to be doing a lot of dirty work. He could be pricing it that high because of labor time. Ask what his labor rate is and how long he expects this to take. This might help with your decision.4. can i put an evaporator coil above a down flow furnace?it rather is the comparable technique I even have taught over 138,000 men and females human beings in 157 international locations to effectively manage their extreme sweating undertaking over the final 7 years! remember: Watch the finished video, by way of fact the ending will pleasantly marvel you5. How do you fix an AC evaporator leak in your car? Can you do it yourself, or is it best left to a professional?Being a professional mechanic, I usually just replace them.Of course most of the condensers I replace have been damaged in a collision. Even if that is not the case, condensers are not expensive and to do a proper job repairing one you would want to remove it from the car in most cases. That being said, I have repaired a few condensers with pin-hole leaks by cutting and crimping the tube where the leak is. Think of folding a garden hose back on itself to stop the flow of water. You do the same to the tube in the condenser and add a bit of solder. How do you fix an AC evaporator leak in your car? Can you do it yourself, or is it best left to a professional?6. I have a 94 civic lx that has a/c problems. Have replaced compressor, evaporator core, condensor, pressure linewell the only thing u didnt mention was the cooling fan. does it kick on when the compressor engages? cant help with your groaning sound7. Is it necessary to service the ac evaporator of my 2000 Toyota sienna if there's no cooling problem/?OK. There are two coils in your A/C System. One is the Condenser, it is in front of the rad, it CAN get clogged with dirt, bugs, etc... Second is the Evaporator, this is somewhere in between the dash and firewall of your car. I can not see the Evaporator being dirty, I've taken lots out, and they've never seemed dirty enough to warrant cleaning them. If, on the other hand, you are talking about the Condenser, then it could be dirty, but you could just take a garden hose and spray it down, after all, it should be in plain view when you pop the hood. Just my take on it.8. Do you have to evacuate the AC system in order to replace the evaporator valve?evacuation after work is performed is recommended to remove the air from the system and the moisture. a auto repair shop could vacuum it and recharge it for you after you fix the problem
Function of Evaporator
Evaporator is an important component together with other major components in a refrigeration system such as compressor, condenser and expansion device. The reason for refrigeration is to remove heat from air, water or other substance. It is here that the liquid refrigerant is expanded and evaporated. It acts as a heat exchanger that transfers heat from the substance being cooled to a boiling temperature. There are two types of evap.:• None Forced Convection Type uses a fan or pump to force the liquid being cooled over the evap.• None Natural Convection Type has the liquid being cooled flows naturally to the evap. due to the density differences of the chilled and warm liquid. There are three types of evap. construction that are commonly being used today:• None Bare-Tube and Plate Surface construction have the entire surface in contact with the evaporating refrigerant inside.• None Finned construction are bare-tube coils upon which fins(metal plates usually Aluminium) are being installed. A more detailed discussion on this type of design will be provided here.An indoor unit that contains finned evap. The fins are added to the bare-tube to increase the heat transfer capability. They act as heat collector that pick up heat from the surrounding air and conduct it to the refrigerant inside the tube hence improving the efficiency in cooling the air of the surrounding. They are best used in the air-cooling space where the temperature is around 34°F.Having fins mean the surface area for heat transfer has been extended. This means that the finned coils can have more compact in design compared to the bare-tube type of similar capacity. In summary, finned coils help to reduce coil cost, size and weight.Good thermal contact between the fins and tubes is a must to ensure efficient heat transfer. They can be soldered together. The other more practical method is to expand the fins by pressure such that they bite into the tube surface hence a good thermal contact is established. The spacing of the fin depend on the operating temperature of the coil. Low temperature application uses only 1 fin.In air conditioning application, 14-16 fins per inch may be used as long it is designed in such a way that frost does not accumulates in the coils.Excessive finning may reduce the capacity of the evap. by restricting the flow of air over the coil hence the design engineers must do a proper system calculation and simulation at design stage. There are 3 main factors to consider in designing an evap.• Pressure Drop The evap. must have sufficient space for the circulation of the refrigerant without too much pressure drop between the outlet and the inlet.• Temperature The evap. must have enough surface to absorb the required heat load in order to ensure the temperature difference between the substance being cooled and the refrigerant is not excessive.• Liquid and Refrigerant Vapor The evap. must have enough space for the liquid refrigerant and the vapor to separate from the liquid.Top Fin 55 Gallon Starter Kit?Being that it is a fairly deep tank you should look for something that will give off around 3-5 watts per gallon. LEDs are a bit trickier since wattage can not be used to gauge how much light will penetrate the water so you need to go with par. I personally do not have enough experience with LEDs to give advice but there is a ton of literature out there to educate yourself. I prefer aquatic life high output T5's, but there are plenty of good LED systems out there. They are expensive though, so be prepared for thathow to prevent fin rot and swim bladder?OK, if you have the right size tank, and decent filtering you are on the right track. Just forget the "bacteria" thing. A healthy tank will be teeming with "good" bacteria, and the fish will have healthy immune systems and be able to fight of any random "bad" bacterial infection. Poor water quality is the main cause of the problems you are worried about. Waste builds up in the water, and weakens the fish so they are no longer able to fight of random infections. So large tank, cycled, good filters, good food, lots of water changes. That's the way to keep the tank (and hence the fish) healthy. Ian
